MacSysadmin 2022: Security for Humans - Revisited A completely remastered and mostly re-written version of my MacAD.UK talk. Read about all the buzz below. This one was recorded at the Finns Sommarteater stage in front of a gapingly empty non-audience, over three days. I was interrupted by incompetence (which is where the first day went), bad timing (second day) and rain (third day), but in the end, i got a rather nice multicamera production recorded … using just one camera (because that’s all i had).

The fame! The fortune! The almost! It’s more than my little brain can handle!

Woo-hoo! I have just stepped off the stage at the Mac Admins' Conference 2022 in Brighton, UK, and i have survived! My presentation on Security for humans went without much catastrophy and nearly within the allotted time. I received rather enthusiastic applause and several people actually came up to me and told me the the presentation was good! Even more importantly, many people have talked with me that it indeed seems important to involve humans in the security loop.

The Macaduk conference has been moved to May, in hopes that the COVID-19 pandemic has passed (into) Stage 3 by then. I’m still planning on giving my Security for humans talk, but in two months, not two weeks. The upshot is that i’ve been given a second chance to actually make this a good talk :) There’s a discussion group on the Macaduk Whova (it’s an app for events) for my session and if you feel like pitching in with your questions and ideas, please join!

Lo and behold. The cat in Schrödinger’s speaker box is alive! Or in more concrete terms, i will be speaking at Macaduk this year after all! Yes, the Macaduk organisers had dropped my request, but then, another already confirmed speaker had to cancel, so i’m on the stage again. And with a little less time that i’m entirely comfortable with. Like last time, i’m going to talk about security, but this time from a more humane perspective.

Last autumn, i volunteered to speak at the MacAD.uk conference 2020. As i neither got an acceptance, nor a rejection letter, apart from a two word response, “great thanks”, i’m now assuming i won’t be talking there. Therefore, i haven’t prepared a talk. My nightmare scenario is that i’ll show up at the conference and they expect me to present. Update: That’s pretty much what happened! Except that they did give me four weeks of warning :)

Aaaaaagh! Looking at the MacADUK 2019 speaker list, i’m now completely overwhelmed by imposter syndrome. All these geniuses … and me?! Halp!

Aaaagh! I’m going to speak at a conference! And i haven’t even started writing my talk yet! And i thought i’d start writing it in January and it’s practically already February! Panic now! On a more serious note, i am indeed going to take a huge step over my insecurity and talk about something that i do know a bit about, though the more i think about it, the less i feel i really know, so it’s imposters' all around agian.
